Agriculture

Merinos

Karoo means "Land of Thirst", and most parts of the Karoo are arid, with rugged rock formations and hardy Karoo veld. Plains stretch to the horizon, broken only by "Karoo blue" mountains in the distance of the occasional emerald splash of a sheep farm homestead garden. But, the Karoo is not all dry. There are well-wooded and green regions and oases of colour.

Merino Ram

Live stock farming mainly with sheep - merino & dorper. Ostrich farming is becoming more popular under the farming community.

Game farms, with hunting during hunting season, are very popular, especially to the overseas market.

Horse Championships

The Middelburg Agricultural show is an annual event, and very popular.

The horse championships are always one of the biggest highlights at the show.
