  • Graveyard of Farm Driefontein
    Follow the road past the caravan park (Hill Street) to the first graveyard behind Ouberg Hill where the first inhabitants of Driefontein, on which Middelburg was founded, lay buried.
  • Old Waterpump
    Queen Victoria gave this gift to the town in 1887 when she had reigned for 50 years. The Victoria- and Jubilee Streets have been named then. The water pump can be seen in the Mayor’s Garden.

  • Chair Monument
    This monument at Ouberg Hill, just outside Middelburg on the Richmond road, marks the spot where two commandants, Lötter and Wolfaardt were executed, during the Anglo Boer War, in 1901.
  • Karoo Ridge Cottage
    Karoo Ridge Cottage is set on Karoo Ridge Conservancy (55km from Middelburg), a 3 000ha working farm, where we run indigenous Nguni and Watusi cattle alongside game.
  • VCA Hall
    It was built as a home for Lord French, by Lord Kitchener’s Master builder during the 1899 – 1902 Anglo Boer War. When the war was drawing towards its end, many local residents felt that the ex-volunteers should be welcomed back home and some form of memorial to be instituted for those who did not return.   • Haystead & Ford Building
    In Market Street, this building dates back to the early days of the century. This is one of the few buildings left from the old Middelburg, which was declared a national monument. - Market Street -
  • Lormar Horse Breeding in Middelburg
    “Piet van der Merwe is ‘n bekende in perdekringe en ‘n bekende teler van gewone Arabierperde, asook Anglo Arabiere. Die perde word op die veld groot, en nadat hulle gevang word, spesifiek geleer as uithourit-perde. Hierdie Arabiere word uitgevoer na die Midde-Ooste, na Dubai, Qatar en Bahrain. Arabiere is tussen 6 en 7 jaar oud wanneer hulle uitgevoer word. Die veld in hierdie gebied is baie geskik vir perde, aangesien dit reik is aan minerale wat die bene hard en sterk maak. Piet het al op die plaas ‘n wêreld kampioen geteël, wat in 2005 die wêreldkampioenskap uithourit in Bahrain gewen het, die enigste teler in Suid-Afrika wat dit nog kon bereik. Jaarliks bied Piet ook twee groot uithouritte op sy plaas aan, waar tot 103 perde al aan een uithourit deelgeneem het.
  • Burger Monument
    This graceful obelisk was erected in 1929 to honour the memory of 19 Burghers who fell during the Anglo Boer War. Can be seen in the Mayor’s Garden. Mayor’s Garden, Meintjies Street.
  • Karoo Country Inn
    The ideal overnight stop for those travelling to Johannesburg from Durban, Port Elizabeth, the Garden Route and Cape Town. Built in 1853, this is a beautifully restored Cape Victorian hotel. We are a full-service hotel with 23 air-conditioned rooms. We also have secure parking and cater for conferences.
  • British Military Pumping Station
    The pumping station was erected in about 1904 by the British troops that were stationed at Grootfontein. Its site is the marshland from which the actual “Groote Fontein” springs.
